Road To The 108th Grey Cup

As a homegrown Canadian company, Canada Drives is thrilled to be named the official Used Car Retailer & Auto Finance partner of the CFL.

The CFL is as Canadian as maple syrup, and teaming up with the iconic league is a true honour for the entire Canada Drives family. Our two organizations were built from the same driving forces: a relentless focus on teamwork and strategy, and a passion for delivering unforgettable experiences to fans and customers alike.

As a first of its kind, Canada Drives is in a league of its own, delivering certified vehicles to Canadians across the country. And we’re proud to announce that we’ve been entrusted with delivering the CFL’s ultimate prize—the Grey Cup—to the championship game in Hamilton on Sunday, December 12th!

True North Tradition

The CFL and the Grey Cup are a storied Canadian tradition that reaches back over a century. While the league itself dates back to the late 1950s, the Grey Cup trophy was first presented to the winning team in 1909 by Governor General Earl Grey. For some historical perspective, the legendary Ford Model T was introduced only one year prior!

Cars have always played a special part in the CFL tradition. Canadians from coast-to-coast fondly reminisce about road trips on sun-soaked summer days during the season and chilly November nights to take in playoff battles. And just as important as the journey was the destination—the Grey Cup!

Parents still pass down stories of sitting in the stands at the 1977 Grey Cup ‘Ice Bowl’, where Montreal bested Edmonton on a field that was more like an ice rink. Memories of arguably the greatest CFL final to date — when the Roughriders defeated the Tiger-Cats to claim the 1989 Grey Cup — still result in passionate debates among the two fiery fan bases.

And who can forget the most recent championship game in 2019? Canada’s own Andrew Harris became the first player ever to be named both the Grey Cup’s Most Valuable Player and the Most Valuable Canadian, as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers soared past Hamilton to be crowned champions!

Moments like these and so many more have cemented the CFL in the fabric of Canadian culture. And being robbed of these memories, and the opportunity to share them with friends and family, is what made 2020’s cancelled season so heartbreaking.

That's why we felt it was so important for Canada Drives to play a role in the Grey Cup’s return this year. It’s about more than a game on a wintery December night. It’s about being part of a Canadian tradition. It’s about family and friends being together. And it’s about delivering an experience that will be talked about well beyond the car ride home.

Delivering Championship Metal

There’s a lot of excitement ahead before east finally meets west, and Canada Drives will have our boots on the ground throughout the entire journey. You can expect to see us shifting the fun into high gear at the Eastern and Western Semi-Finals (Sunday, November 28) and at the Division Finals (Sunday, December 5). One of our unmistakable blue trucks will then deliver the Grey Cup to Hamilton and we’ll be along for the ride throughout Grey Cup Week in the leadup to championship Sunday.

At each playoff game and at the Grey Cup, Canada Drives will be giving away a pair of 2022 CFL season tickets!

After all, traditions aren’t only for maintaining; they’re meant to be carried on! You’re sure to see our blue trucks and trailers at the games, so come by for details or follow us on social media.

And if you’re still looking to buy tickets to the 108th playing of the Grey Cup on Sunday, December 12 at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, visit ticketmaster.ca/greycup.
