Fiat Chrysler Recall Over 55,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Ram Vehicles

Fiat Chrysler has issued a recall affecting over 55,000 vehicles in Canada because of an issue with the fuel pump.

Date of recall: June 14, 2022

Vehicles affected

The recall affects 55,711 vehicles in Canada, plus another 138,465 in the United States. All of the affected vehicles fall under these models:

  • Jeep Grand Cherokee (2014 to 2020)
  • Dodge Ram 1500 (2014 to 2020)

What’s the problem?

This particularly affects vehicles equipped with a 3.0L diesel engine, where the high-pressure fuel pump might start failing due to premature wear and tear. Tell-tale signs could include reduced engine performance while driving, a fuel leak, or a service light appearing in the instrument cluster indicating an issue with throttle control. Such a loss in engine power increases the risk of a crash.

Fiat Chrysler hasn’t reported any incidents or injuries related to the defect.

What’s the fix?

Dealers will inspect the fuel pump and fuel system, replacing the faulty pump and checking to ensure whether or not other parts may be necessary to ultimately fix the problem. The repair will be done free of charge.

What do you do?

Jeep and Dodge will begin notifying affected owners in the coming weeks with instructions on when to take their vehicle in for repair.
