Ford F-Series Truck Recall: Your Next Steps

Ford is recalling approximately 464,000 F-Series pickup trucks with engine block heaters in Canada as they have the potential to catch fire...

The new recall issued from Ford covers certain F-150s models built between 2015 to 2019, as well as F-250, 350, 450 and 550 models manufactured between 2017 to 2019.

The risk to safety only exists while the vehicle is parked and the block heater cable is plugged into an electrical outlet.

On some of the affected vehicles, water and contaminants can intrude into the block heater wire assembly that may result in a resistive short. While the vehicle is parked and block heater cord is plugged in, a resistive short may increase the risk of overheated or melted wiring, and/or fire. A short may also trip household breakers or GFCI-equipped outlets when the block heater cord is plugged in. The Ford reference number for this recall is 18S45.

Ford dealerships in Canada will inspect the engine block heater cable wire assembly and replace it if it's damaged or corroded. If there are no signs of damage or corrosion, dealers will apply dielectric grease to the splice connector and reconnect.
