Fiat Chrysler Recall Over 46,000 Vehicles Due to a Backup Camera Problem
Fiat Chrysler has issued a recall affecting over 46,000 vehicles in Canada because of an issue with the rearview camera staying on too long.

Models affected
This recall covers different models, 46,772 of which are affected in Canada, plus another 318,537 in the United States.
- Dodge Challenger Coupe (2019)
- Chrysler Pacifica (2019-20)
- Dodge Durango (2019-20)
- Jeep Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, and Renegade (2019-20)
- Jeep Gladiator and Cherokee (2020)
- Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 (2019-20)
What’s the problem?
All of these models were equipped with the same rearview backup camera. When the vehicle is shifted out of reverse, the feed from the camera stays on the infotainment screen for more than 10 seconds. That’s longer than regulations allow, and could be a driver distraction increasing the chance of a crash. This happens regardless of whether the model has an 8.4-inch or 12.3-inch infotainment display.
Fiat Chrysler hasn’t reported any specific incidents or injuries related to the defect in these models.
What’s the fix?
Fiat Chrysler will update the software to fix the software free of charge.
What do you do?
Fiat Chrysler will begin notifying affected owners on May 22 by mail with instructions on next steps. It may not require a visit to a dealer to resolve the issue if the software can be applied with an over-the-air update.
