Fiat Chrysler has issued a recall affecting over 77,000 vehicles in Canada because of faulty windshield wipers that may not function properly.
Date of recall: April 15, 2020
This recall covers different models, 77,480 of which are affected in Canada, plus another 425,558 in the United States.
All of these models were equipped with the same windshield wipers and assembly. The vehicles were assembled with a nut at the factory that was different from the previous type. The new wipers could cause the wipers to fail when drivers use them, where they may not clean the windshield properly, or sit back in the resting position when turned off.
The first warning sign is that the wipers don’t clear off all precipitation as they normally would. It could reduce driver visibility and increase the risk of a collision.
Fiat Chrysler hasn’t reported any specific incidents or injuries related to the defect in these models.
Dealers will inspect the nut and tighten it with the required torque to resolve the issue without having to replace it entirely. The repair will be done free of charge.
Fiat Chrysler will begin notifying affected owners on May 25 by mail with instructions on next steps.
