Ford F-150, Exhibition and F-750 Recall: Your Next Steps

Ford Motor Company has issued a safety recall for 350,000 select vehicles across North America, with 51, 742 of those vehicles in Canada.

If you own a 2018 Ford F-150, 2018 Ford Exhibition or F-750 vehicle, Ford Motor Company has issues a safety recall for these select vehicles with 10-speed and 6-speed automatic transmissions.

The safety recall is impacting approximately 350,000 vehicles in North America and 51,742 of those vehicles are in Canada. According to the company, selected vehicles will be recalled for a clip that locks the gear shift cable to the transmission which might not be fully seated. Unseated transmission gear shift cable clips could allow a vehicle’s transmission to be in a gear that is different from the one selected by the driver.

For example, if a driver turns a vehicle gear to park and removes the key from the ignition, the transmission gear might not actually be in park, and there is no warning to the driver that the intended gear switch has not been secured. This is a huge risk factor, as the vehicle could result in unsecured movement of the vehicle, increasing the chance of a potential accident.

Ford’s website states that the following vehicles are affected:

2018 Ford F-150 vehicles built at Dearborn Assembly Plant, Jan. 5, 2017 to Feb. 16, 2018

2018 Ford F-150 vehicles built at Kansas City Assembly Plant, Jan. 25, 2017 to Feb. 16, 2018

2018 Ford Expedition vehicles built at Kentucky Truck Plant, April 3, 2017 to Jan. 30, 2018

2018 Ford F-650 and F-750 vehicles built at Ohio Assembly Plant, April 25, 2017 to March 9, 2018

Ford Motor Company has reported one accident from this recall and advises Canadians with affected vehicles to visit a local Ford dealership for an inspection to verify that the shift cable locking clip is properly installed. All vehicles with clips not properly seated will receive a free adjustment to ensure the clip is locked. The Ford reference number for this recall: 18S10. Safe driving out there folks!
